CLIENT / THE NEW SCHOOL
LOCATION / FLATIRON
Making is key to The New School Parson School of Design’s pedagogy. For this makerspace, we created the ideal space for students to advance specific skills and where various kinds of creative making can flourish. Situated in a former 1920’s warehouse factory, this 20,000 SF hands-on fabrication facility for student use includes tools and advanced technology for wood working, metal welding, jewelry making, CNC milling, and laser cutting.
Studio Space
In addition to integrating advanced technology throughout the facility, we also designed studio and gallery spaces for gathering, displaying, critiquing, and teaching. Flexible “white box” BFA studios and presentation areas allow students full control of making, displaying, and speaking about their work.
