CLIENT / THE SCHOOL AT COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY
LOCATION / UPPER WEST SIDE
This K-8th grade school was originally designed as a “pod” type learning environment comprised of multi-function classrooms organized with many interior focused classrooms with limited natural light. NDG designed the renovation of two floors of the school to ensure that all classrooms have exterior views with plenty of natural light.
Rigorous Timelines
This project was an extremely fast-tracked project. Each floor was completed within a 54-day summer schedule that included a demolition through final construction and furniture installation in order to be ready for the Fall semester. All new HVAC, fire alarm, and sprinkler systems were installed prior to the reconfiguration of each floor.
Unique Details
The new natural science rooms incorporate unique features, including new aquariums and terrariums that divide the public halls from the classrooms.
